Northwest Civic Association holds regular monthly meetings, annual meetings, special meetings, and several events throughout the year. Meeting agendas are posted on our home page shortly before each meeting, and meeting minutes are posted here about a month afterward, pending trustees’ approval. Please come and join us!
Regular Meetings
During regular monthly meetings, guest speakers present topics of local interest, and the Trustees deliberate on re-zoning and graphics variance applications, during which the public is encouraged to participate with questions and feedback.
Our regular monthly meetings begin promptly at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, (occasionally we take a month off) at the Northwest Church of the Nazarene, 5707 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43235. The public is welcome, except when the board meets in executive session. Beginning with our April 6, 2022 meeting, we will be meeting in person with a Zoom option for members of the public who still prefer to attend virtually.

February NWCA Meeting
The regular NWCA Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Northwest Church of the Nazarene (5707 Olentangy River Road) and via Zoom.

o 2074 Bethel Rd. (GC23-047) - 3 variances to modify an existing ground sign at Crown Point Plaza to add 2 tenant panels, which would increase the total square footage and graphic area beyond the maximum allowed.
o 743 Bethel Rd. (GC23-051) - 1 variance to add a third illuminated sign for Coco's within Olentangy Plaza; the proposed sign is 68.27SF and the maximum allowed is 31.84SF.

NWCA Annual Meeting - NOTE Time Change for Zoning
NWCA is holding their 2023 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 7th at the Northwest Church of the Nazarene (5707 Olentangy River Road). Because we also have two zoning hearings, we will have those at 6:00 PM, then begin our program at 7:00 PM. The program will feature a Town Hall to solicit input from our community members about local concerns and priorities. We want to hear from you. Columbus City Council reaches out to NWCA for feedback and this is your opportunity to AMPLIFY YOUR VOICE!
We will have light refreshments, including some from the Refectory. All are welcome to the zoning portion and the Annual Meeting.
We will vote on trustees and other matters. Join us in person or via Zoom.

March NWCA Meeting
Join us for our March 1st meeting at 7:00 PM at the Northwest Church of the Nazarene and on Zoom. We will have two speakers:
Idin Pirasteh and Principal Erica Walters will introduce Mater Academy (located at the former Burgess & Niple building on Reed Rd.) to the community.
Katherine “Swid” Swidarski, PhD, Climate Action Plan Implementation Manager will discuss the current status and future of the Columbus Climate Action Plan. PowerPoint
February NWCA Meeting CANCELED
We anticipate having a guest speaker at our March 1, 2023 meeting.
There is currently 1 zoning application on the agenda for March. It is a request to rezone the property at 980 Old Henderson Rd from C-2 (commercial) to AR-3 to allow for a multi-family residential development of 40 dwelling units on 0.97 acres. This is the property just east of the existing Luxe 88 apartment complex. There are a number of companion variances that accompany this request that are needed for the development as proposed. If you would like more details in advance of our next meeting you may email NWCAZoning@gmail.com.
Please send in your dues for 2023 by March 10th. You can print and complete the NWCA Membership Application, enclose a check for the annual dues, and mail it to us at NWCA, P.O. Box 20134, Columbus, OH 43220. All instructions are on the application form. You can also pay at the March meeting.

2908-94 Hayden Rd. (BZA22-163) Variance to reduce the minimum number of parking spaces from 11 to 0 in shopping center.
2510 Bethel Rd (Z21-062) Rezone from current Commercial Planned Development (CPD) which doesn’t permit an automatic car wash to a new CPD text which would allow the car wash use only.
NWCA December Meeting

Guest Speaker: Shiloh Todorov, Development Director, Move to PROSPER
Move to PROSPER gives single moms the chance to access higher-resourced Central Ohio neighborhoods. It’s a three year program that provides rent support that bridges the gap between the lower-resourced neighborhoods where they can afford the rent, and the higher-resourced neighborhoods. During those three years, they get coaching and programs that help them achieve and attain economic stability. In July 2022, we graduate our 10 pilot families, a pilot done in partnership with OSU’s City & Regional Planning school, where the families saw their incomes rise by 58% on average.

6000 Sawmill Rd (GC21-049) – Target wants to replace current parking stalls with 12 “drive-up” post and panel sided stalls and 2 solar powered “beacon signs” to indicate where the drive-up area is.

Recent innovations and events in the auditor’s office, including Property eAlerts system, real estate sales dashboard, property tax refunds to schools etc., and the Kirwin Institute report on racial bias in real estate appraisals.
