Meeklynn/Linworth Road Storm Sewer Project

On August 21, 2008, NWCA hosted a Community Meeting with the City of Columbus to discuss the Meeklynn/Linworth Stormwater Sewer Project.  This project is made up on three independent sites in the Northwest Area of Columbus.  These plans are not final.

Site One starts on the east of the intersection of Linworth and Meeklynn, east along the north side of Meeklynn, then North on the west side of Olentangy River Road to end at Kempton Run Watershed.  This Sewer is necessary to correct the flooding along Meeklynn Road.  Residents were concerned about flooding on the North side of the street, to the rear of the properties.  The City said that the sewers should help to eleviate problems in the rear, but were not designed to fix them.  The City said that installation would require cutting down two mature trees on Meeklynn Road. Estimated Cost: 1 Million Dollars.

Site Two is a Ditch and Storm Sewer Improvement on the east side of the existing box culvert under the Rail Road tracks heading east, along the north property line of 5661 Linworth Rd, and will terminate at the west side of Linworth Road.  At the end of the ditch improvement, a new storm sewer conduit will be installed to connect the ditch to an existing storm sewer on the east side of Linworth Rd.  This improvement is to eliminate the flooding occurring in the parking lot in the Shadow Lakes Community, off of Godown Road. Estimated Cost: 100,000 dollars.

Site Three is designed to eliminate flooding on Augusta Glenn, off of Linworth Road.  There are two options.  Option One would start at the existing box culvert on the west side of the Rail Road track just east of 5550 Rockport Road (in the Sycamore Hills City Park), then head north along the west side of the Rail Road Track and terminate at Kempton Run Watershed.  This would require borrowing under ground.  Option two would be to run pipe through the Condo Complex on Augusta Glenn.  The City was confident that Option Two would not be feasible.  For Option One, the City said that this project would only a negligible about of water to Kempton Run.  Sycamore Hills residents also let the City know about flooding in the rear of the park. Estimated Cost: 400,000 dollars

UPDATE ON CITE 3:  DECEMBER 1, 2008:  The City says “our preferred option is to increase the storm sewer capacity behind the units along Augusta Glen Drive and route the stormwater down Augusta Glen Drive.  We are still working out the details of this design alternative.”   Map of Augusta Glen Drive

NWCA will stay in contact with the City and make residents aware of new development.  These projects are set for construction within 3 to 5 years.
