Zoning, Graphics and Development

The Northwest Civic Association hearing requests for rezonings, zoning variances, and graphics in order to make recommendations to the City of Columbus.   In hearing these requests, NWCA Trustees use the Columbus City Code, the Northwest Plan, Bethel Road Standard, and Sawmill Road Standard in making recommendations.

NWCA Formal Process: Once an application is forwarded by the City to the NWCA Zoning Chair, the Chair will then contact the Applicant and provide them with the NWCA Zoning Presentation Format Form and a list of current Trustees.  The Zoning Presentation Form must be sent to all Trustees, via U.S. Mail,  at least two weeks prior to the meeting the Presentation will be made.  If the Applicant fails to meet the deadline, NWCA reserves the right to drop the Zoning from the Agenda and move it to the next meeting.

A presentation of the material will be made to the Board prior to a formal vote on the recommendation to the City.  The Applicant is encouraged to bring site plans, diagrams or other materials that may be helpful in making the presentation.  If audio visual equipment is necessary, please contact the Zoning Chair.  In the meeting the Applicant will have fifteen minutes to make the presentatino, including taking questions from the Board.  After the presentation, the community will have public comment.  Each individual making a comment is limited to three minutes.  After public comment, the Board may ask final questions and the Applicant then has an opportunity to make a closing statement.  The Board will vote in public session on the recommendation.  The results of the recommendation will be formally communicated in writing to the City of Columbus Development or Graphics Commission.  A copy will be sent to the Applicant and the City Council Zoning Chair.

NWCA Informal Process:  NWCA, upon request at least two weeks prior to the regularly scheduled meeting, may hear an informal resentations on zoning matters.  These presentations are governed by the rules stated in the Formal Process, however the Board will not take formal action, instead will provide comment on the application.
