2009 Annual Membership Meeting

NWCA’s 42nd Annual Meeting was held on April 22, 2009 at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Rd., Columbus Ohio 43220, room 213.  This meeting was an opportunity to update members on the progress of the last year, to elect trustees and award the Henderson Award for Community Service.  We also want to thank organizations, businesses and individuals who helped NWCA over the past year and were “Good Neighbors”.  This year, we were exicted that the Gables Show Choir provided entertainment prior the business meeting.   The following items were covered in the Agenda.  Also attached are the events presentations.

Year-In-Review:  Trustees presented a summarized look of all of activities of NWCA since our last annual meeting, including zonings, community service, financial information, and other significant events.

Strategic Plan:  In January of 2009, the Strategic Plan committee was formed to study the NWCA and draft a plan for its future.  The Committee met during late Feburary and early March.  It presented the NWCA Strategic Plan to the Board of Trustees on April 1, 2009.  The Board of Trustees voted to have the Plan approved by its Membership during the Annual Meeting.  NWCA Strategic Plan 2009-2014.

Trustee Elections:  Seven Trustee seats were up for election for term 2009-2011.  All of the following Trustees were re-elected to the board:

 Jennifer Anne Adair:  Jennifer has been involved with NWCA since 1997, when she served as Student Intern at Centennial High School, where she graduated in 1998. Jennifer graduated from Northwestern University and Capital University Law School. She currently works at the Ohio Attorney General’s office. She is active with the Columbus Bar Association, John Mercer Langston Bar Association, the Capital University Law Alumni board, and Centennial High School where she serves at the Mock Trial Legal Adviser. She was appointed to the Board in 2007. Currently, Jennifer is the President, Zoning and Graphic Chair, and Schools Committee Co-Chair. Jennifer lives in the Gables West neighborhood.  

Marilyn Goodman:  Marilyn was born and raised in Cincinnati, where she attended Cincinnati Public Schools. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Xavier University in Cincinnati. Marilyn has also received her Paralegal Certificate from the Capital University Law School. She currently works at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Marilyn appointed to the Board in 2007. Currently, Marilyn is the Chair of the Diversity and Code Enforcement Committees. Marilyn lives in the Riverside Green neighborhood.

Joan Presutti:  Joan’s background is in the hospitality industry where she has been involved with a family business. She has been involved with NWCA for many years and currently serves as the Membership Co-Chair. Joan lives in the Slade Run Woods neighborhood.

Ruth Royal:  Ruth is a 26-year resident of Northwest Columbus. She attended the Ohio State University and her family has been in the catering business for over 20 years. Ruth recently worked for the State of Ohio. She has given many years of service to NWCA. Ruth currently serves Membership Co-Chair and lives in the Wishing Well Acres neighborhood.

Juana Sandoval:  Juana has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MIT. Her graduate education was in City and Regional Planning from OSU. She is currently completing another master’s degree in Civil Engineering from OSU. Juana works as a Transportation Engineer at MORPC, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. Juana was appointed to the Board in 2007. She currently serves on the Website and Diversity Committees. Juana lives in the Riverside Green neighborhood.

Good Neighbor Awards:  During the year many businesses, organizations, and individuals were instrumental to NWCA’s successful year.  These people went above and beyond to help NWCA and all of the neighbors in NWCA.  As a result,  NWCA has implemented the “Good Neighbor Award” to be awarded annually to individuals, businesses and organizations who have given to NWCA through time, donations, and support in order to help our community.  The first Good Neighbor Award winners are:

Henderson Award Winner:  NWCA is proud to announce that Robert Thurman of New Albany is the 2009 Anna Mildred Henderson Award Winner for Community Service.

Speakers: The meeting featured a keynote address by Hugh Dorrian, City Auditor. Mr. Dorrian discussed the need to increase city revenue and a possible request to increase the City’s income tax. Additionally Kitty Burcsu, Executive Director of the Ohio Community Service Council spoke about the need and opportunities for volunteerism.
