2010 Annual Membership Meeting

NWCA’s 43rd Annual Meeting will be held on April 21, 2010 at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Rd., Columbus Ohio 43220, room 213.  This meeting provides an opportunity to update members on the progress of the last year, to elect trustees and award the Henderson Award for Community Service.  We also want to thank organizations, businesses and individuals who helped NWCA over the past year and were “Good Neighbors”.   We also have a Special Annoucnement for our Members concerning a new community partnership!

Eight Trustee seats are up for election for term 2010-2012.  The following individuals have announced his/her intention to run and will be on the ballot:

Jeanne AshbyJeanne Ashby:    Jeanne Ashby has lived in the Gables West neighborhood for the past 17 years with her husband Gary where they raised three children that went to Gables Elementary, Ridgeview Middle School, and Centennial High School from 1987 to 2006. She was very active as a board member and/or volunteering on many committees on the afore mentioned schools Parent Teacher Associations. She has always believed that the parental support and involvement at her children’s schools had helped to make their quality of education stronger. That is why she is excited to serve as a Board Member on the Northwest Civic Association to help make this northwest neighborhood stronger in any way she can. Volunteering and getting invlolved is an important part of maintaining a possitive quality of life in our community.  Jeanne serves as the Boards Secretary and Membership Chair.

Bill Carleton is an eight year resident of the Northwest area and joined the NWCA board in 2006.  He was reelected in May of 2007 for a two-year term.  Bill serves as Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Bikeways, and the OSU Airport Committee.  Bill has been in commercial real estate from 1962 when he joined the Galbreath Company.  He has served on numerous real estate boards and was a member of the New Albany Planning Commission and New Albany Architectural Review Committee and served on the Rocky Fork Blacklick Accord Implementation Panel for the Village of New Albany and the City of Columbus.   

 Mark Kreitmeyer has served for 6 years on the NWCA board, the services as the Treasurer.  He also works to organize community clean-ups in our service area. Mark is a 15 year resident of Northwest Columbus, he has served on the NWCA board for 10 years and is raising his children in the area.  He would like to help ensure the continued safety of his family, and all families who call Northwest Columbus home.  

John Schmidt is a long-term resident of Northwest Columbus and has been a member of the NWCA association for many years.  As a retired professor for Ohio State University, his education and management experience gives him great experience.  John is the liason for the NWCA to the Ohio State University Airport, Don Scott Feild.    

Dave Shaw was a teacher and coach in the Columbus Public Schools for thirty-five (35) years.  He officiated football, basketball, volleyball and track at many area schools, including Centennial, Whetstone and Ridgeview.  Dave was a past President of the Northern Lions Club and the Northern Business and Professional Association, and a long-time employee of The Ohio State Fair.  Dave served on the Whetstone Recreation Center and Carriage Place Recreation Center Advisory Councils. Dave was a former Teacher-Probation Officer with the Juvenile Court, and he worked several summers in the Clerk of Municipal Courts Office.  He is a member of North Broadway United Methodist Church. 

Scott  Voelkel’s background includes 12 years of sales management experience at Continental Airlines and United Airlines.  He also has 7 years experience as a Vice President for Strategic Mortgage Company, one of Central Ohio’s largest mortgage lenders.  He brings with him knowledge of real estate and the effects it has on the community.  A graduate of Indiana University, Scott’s education is in marketing and management. Scott’s goal is to help bring the residents of Northwest Columbus together to build a stronger and better community.   Scott serves as Special Trustee of Communications.

Henderson Award Winner:  The Anna Mildred Henderson Award for Community Service is awarded annually to an individual who has contributed greatly to his or her community.  The NWCA is proud to announce that this year’s winner is Rosemarie Lisko.  Rosemarie has been a dedicated resident of the Northwest Community for a very long time.  A resident of Indian Hills, she has served on its Neighborhood Association for a number of years.  Rosemarie has also served on the Board for the NWCA and acted as its President and Zoning Chair.  She remains active as a member and Co-Chair of the Student Interns Committee.  Whether it is picking up trash, trying to obtain sidewalks, taking interns to City Council or making calls to City Hall, Rosemaire is a dedicated neighbor.
